The Great Resignation is Here (Who's In?)

It seems a few people have pretty much had it.

Correction: more than 30 MILLION people have had it. They’ve hung up their headsets, cleared out their cubicles, and headed right out the office doors (or shipped their laptop back to HQ from the comfort of their pandemic-created virtual offices.)

This mass exodus has been dubbed “The Great Resignation,” “The Great Reshuffle,” or “The Big Quit,” and it’s the most extensive job-quitting hot streak the U.S. has ever seen. In August alone, more than 4.2 million Americans left their jobs – a record-breaking number in a record-breaking year that has seen 20.8% of the workforce essentially tell their employers to politely “take this job and s#@ve it.”

(OK, Maybe they were classier about it than that.)

Point is, the job market is positively rumbling with change.

So what’s behind all of this? (And why should you care?)

For starters, high quit rates usually mean workers are confident in their ability to land something better. They may be seeking more money, a better work environment or an actual path for growth. Or they may be looking for something else. The widespread work-from-home shift brought on by COVID-19 woke plenty of folks up to the notion that, thanks but no thanks, they do not in fact want to battle rush hour Monday thru Friday so they can sit at a desk in a fluorescent-lit office for 40 hours a week.

They want flexibility.

They want meaningful work.

They want to be able to pick their kids up from the bus stop at 3:00.

On top of that, plenty of folks want to pull a career switcheroo and try something completely different.

What about you? Where do you fall on this Great Resignation continuum?

Are you a (don’t take this the wrong way) quitter? Job changer? Wannabe quitter / job changer? Looking to pivot into something completely new?

If the answer is a hearty “Yes!” to any of the above, what’s next for you?

If you’re like plenty of people, that might not be an easy answer just yet. You certainly may know full well that you’re in the wrong spot (or, if you’ve already quit, were in the wrong spot), but have you figured out what, specifically, you want to do next?

And, if you have, do you have a clear plan of action for the coming weeks and months to ensure your transition is a smashing success?

Fear not if you don’t. We cooked up a little something something to help you.

And it’s FREE.
